So let's start with the basics, and what better place than the beginning?

Royal Purple is a privately-held company headquartered in Porter, TX. That's right, we do everything here  including: lab research and testing, mixing, bottling, distribution, PR, customer service, motorsports sponsorship and technical assistance. We make all of our automotive and industrial lubricants at our facility in addition to great synthetic products such as MaxFilm, Purple Ice, Gun Oil, chain lubricant, assembly lube and Marine products just to name a few.

Royal Purple was founded in 1986 by John Williams, a chemical engineer who was a pioneer in developing synthetic lubricants as early as the 1940s and 50s. Retired in the 1980s, Williams was able to pursue his passion for lubrication as a consultant for oil companies. It was during this time that a company asked him to develop a lubricant that could solve the issue of chronic bearing failures in their large compressors. Not only did Williams' new lubricant possess unusually high film strength capable of protecting bearings under heavy loads, it also had exceptional oxidation stability and could protect against rust and corrosion in hot and cold temperature applications. That lubricant, called Synfilm, along with its exclusive, proprietary Synerlec additive technology, became the cornerstone of Royal Purple’s entire line of high performance industrial, automotive and racing oils.

Williams decided to name the company Royal Purple because the color was historically associated with royalty who used the color purple for only the finest of fabrics because it was so expensive to produce. His hope was that the color’s association with quality would symbolize the quality in all Royal Purple lubricants.

Unlike companies that primarily focus on fuel and other petroleum byproducts, Royal Purple's sole mission is to develop products that significantly outperform other synthetic and mineral based oils. We are very active in the lubricant industry and its related associations including: Independent Lubrication Manufacturers Association, The Society of Tribologists and Lubrication Engineers, Specialty Equipment Market Association, Automotive Oil Change Association and the Motorcycle Industry Council. Our products are distributed  the United States and internationally in countries such as Canada, Mexico, Japan, China, Malaysia, The United Kingdom, Australia and Italy.

There you have it. Our beginnings at Royal Purple. Stay tuned. More to come!
